we went to the centro de arte reina sofía and saw works by dalí, picasso, miro, and others. the big pieces, such as guernica or la muchacha en la ventana, produce a strange phenomenon. as you walk through the center, there is a sombre quiet. out of the quiet rises a tension and you know that around one of these corners will be 'the piece'. i was not able to take a picture in the guernica room, but i was permitted to snap a picture of the muchacha en la ventana by dalí, which although it is not representative of the bizarre surrealism that people associate with the artist, continues to be one of my favorite pieces of art in the world. it still impresses me how close i can get to works of art here in europe. i was able to look at each brush stroke.
